Saginaires Alumni Association 25 October 1998 The Keisers', Hazel Park, MI In attendance (in order of arrival): Sonya Keiser, Paul Keiser, Diana Cook, Ralph Biggs, Dan Clouse, Chris Rohn, Kari Braman Meeting called to order at 3:30pm Read minutes of 8/30/98 meeting SAA Membership: Basic vs. Paid - Diana presented printouts of alumni database - Stratified membership ideas: Dan's idea: all members receive free newsletter via U.S. Mail $10/year or $100 lifetime membership Is paid membership a plausible idea? - Ralph: no, not right now. - Paul: FYI, Troopers charge $25/year and receive few perks - Kari: older alums will donate. - Dan: perhaps voluntary donations for a start - all in attendance at this mtg should donate $10 at next mtg, for mailings. What comes with membership? - free newsletter - discounts to Drums Across the Valley; group rates to DCI Finals Week - souvies, various other perks Final decision regarding stratified membership: With newsletters, include form to donate any amount of money. Wait until SAA is established firmly before instituting formal dues. - Scholarship fund? Wait until a corps is re-established to be concerned about scholarships. Meeting with Joe Kuerzi (and Bob Waskoviak) - Joe sends his regards -- is with his band at the Silverdome. - At least one or two people need to meet with Joe first to discuss our ideas and see how plausible everything we're suggesting may be. If Joe agrees, all of us meet with Bob to discuss and plan. - Ralph nominated as liaison to Joe, as he sees Joe most often. - Idea: as a good faith effort to SYO, SAA core group help clean/organize corps hall. SYO Board of Directors? - Unknown if Bd. of Dir. still exists. - Dan to contact Kris Rebbeck, whose father was on the Board. SAA Board of Directors: - As of now, core group of interested alumni (in attendance, plus supporting parties not in attendance) act as ad hoc Board. Eventually, a Board of Directors will be elected by the membership. (Diana has already entrenched herself in the position of Secretary...) Fundraising ideas: - Ralph: SAA Banquet Will this bring in enough alumni? - this summer's picnic was too late of notice, bad timing for some. - if reasonable price and distance, alumni from all years should attend Where: SE Michigan When: Late Winter (Feb.) How much: Paul to investigate Purpose: to kick off the SAA, interest alumni, bring in $$ for SAA How to contact alumni: - U.S. Mail -- Ralph and Kari to track down addresses - e-mail as per usual - Ralph & Paul: alumni play carols and/or other songs for donations - Dan: Drumcorps Cookbook (for souvie and for actual use by corps) - Diana: Yearbook Compile all years into volume for sale at Banquet - later to be expanded and sold as separate years or eras - Sonya to check on feasibility and pricing of printing Other Fundraising thoughts: - NA Bowl-a-thon: depends on honor system, not well organized - Vegas night: ??? - Bingo: still going on -- headed by Joe? - FYI, Colts have mandatory corps car wash -- teams wash all over town SAA funds and their usage/savings: - Keep SAA funds separate from SYO funds - Look into acting under SYO umbrella to utilize 501(c)(3) status -- mailings, etc. - Ask Joe to see SYO constitution and bylaws, as they are a non-profit org. Assistance in NA/SYO recruitment: - SAA/SYO table at Marching Band competitions - Interlochen - Blue Lakes - Band camps, esp. of non-competitive bands - Main focus: HORNS! Drumline definitely secure, guard relatively secure. Alumni Contact via e-mail: - Diana: read off 29 alumni e-mails that bounce back - two corrected; three to be found by Ralph Next meeting scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, 3pm, location TBA Responsibilities: - Paul: Locate Banquet hall in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area and inquire as to $$ - Ralph: find e-mails and addresses; act as liaison to Joe - Dan: contact Joe Davis to use his home for next SAA mtg; contact Kris Rebbeck about Bd. of Dir. - Kari: Info on SYO consititution and bylaws; mailing list of alumni - Diana: post info on web, e-mail alumni - Sonya: look into yearbook costs Meeting adjourned approximately 6pm.
